Looking for some new music never stopped versions that smoke.

I really like this song but it seems to let me down more often than not as I'm always hoping for a really solid climax. I guess thats what I get for starting off on DP 18's version, doubtful any other performances out there are as good.

Hit me with your favorites please.

The one Phil choose for his Fallout CD. Best post vocal jam I've heard by miles. Pretty darn good during the first half too.

If you like 4-27-84 you should certainly like 3-31-84. Never hear anyone talk about it and its an all time favorite of mine.

thanks for the suggestions.

Wisconsin,
Check out also May 14, 1980. This was my 4th show and it was great to revisit it yesterday on this archive. Charlie Miller likes this version too. Bobby's triplet's help drive it for sure.

Funny, I was about to post almost that same list, except I would've added 5/7/77 (which might be a notch above 5/9). Great MNS's were quite common in that year.

Perhaps that merely illustrates my greater familiarity with the Keith years than the Brent years...

Nice! Me I think it could just be that great minds think alike ;) I am curious about you choice of 5/7 over 5/9 though...I haven't heard that version quite some time so it's hard to judge off hand, but I remember liking 5/9 better b/c Jerry's solo just sounded a lot hotter to me than 5/7.

Well, those are mostly pretty famous versions, so I wasn't too surprised that someone else picked the same ones.
10/1/77 is probably the most undersung of the bunch, and it's surprisingly hot.

4/21/78 is pretty close to 4/24/78, though the band sounds a bit more excited on 4/24.

I don't think there's much to choose in hotness between the 5/7 & 5/9/77 versions...they seem pretty similar to me. I may prefer 5/7 because of that distracting SBD cut in 5/9, and also because in the 5/7 jam they sound like they're increasingly going off the rails...

Good points for sure...I don't hear the 10/1 version discussed often in the best ever lists either. It should be more widely known, the jam hits some great peaks and melodies that are pretty unique. I'm unfamiliar with 4/21/78, I'll have to check that out...

Nope, no other versions are as good. The DP18 version is the best.

But '78 features a number of good renditions.

I was always partial to 6/28/85. That version made me "stand up" and take notice of how great a song TMNS was. I have not heard another one that comes close to it.

I always thought it would have been a cool Set II opener like Sugar Magnolia. Beginning of song > rest of set (instead of middle jam) > finish song. "The band is all packed and gone..."
